As 2022 comes to an end, Perfect Corp. has released its’ annual Beauty and Fashion by Numbers recap revealing the top consumer trends of the year. 

This year’s “Beauty and Fashion by Numbers” insights bring to the forefront the digital transformation that continues to accelerate across the beauty and fashion industries, where consumers are now seeking out immersive shopping experiences personalised to their unique needs and style preferences.

Looking at the beauty sector, the most loved virtual try-on experience is eye makeup, generating 42% of all global beauty virtual try-ons. The second most popular category was lip colour with 26%, followed by face makeup with 15%.

In terms of the fashion category, here we also have a clear popularity contest winner, with wig virtual try-on taking the crown by generating 46% of all global fashion virtual try-ons. Ranked second is eyewear with 18%, followed by headbands with 13%. We also see some new categories, such as earrings and necklace, climbing up the leaderboard.

Perfect Corp. recorded 335 million hair colour try-ons in 2022. Consumers are embracing natural hair colours, including their grey roots. The top three hair colours in the UK included Woodsmoke, Berry Blue and Silver. Meanwhile, there were 1.3 Billion lip colour try-ons in 2022. Bright pink lip colour has long been a favourite, however soft, muted red and Dusty pink lip colour shades are trending globally. Cranberry Pink was the top choice for British consumers, followed by Terracotta Red, Red Ribbon, Salmon Pink and Dusty Pink.

  • Consumers are turning to virtual try-on for fashion inspiration, with eyewear and jewellery being some of the most frequently tried on fashion categories, surpassing 219 million try ons
  • 21 million interactions with the YouCam Makeup AI skin score feature in 2022, as consumers continue to prioritise skin care, self care and wellness
