Medic explains how to boost your sports performance using the new ‘it’ treatment – Red Light Therapy

by uma

-Accelerates muscle recovery and regeneration-

-Treats muscle fatigue-

-Faster recovery from injuries-

Full body Red Light Therapy (RLT) has made its way into the spotlight as professional athletes are using it to enhance their athletic performance.

Until recently the only places to go for full body treatment were specialist sports clinics but as REDjuvenate Medical has made it more accessible for sports enthusiasts to access this therapy, leading medical expert, Dr Qian Xu explains more about how this treatment can benefit people who lead active lives:

How can red light therapy enhance sports performance?

RLT can help highly active people to achieve better performance by improving the speed and quality of muscle regeneration, ensuring faster recovery from injuries, and from increased blood flow. This will allow sports enthusiasts to increase their training intensity and break through their limits.  A number of Olympic teams are currently using RLT and seeing faster recovery times and better performance in their athletes, which has given them a (legal and healthy) competitive advantage.

Whole body treatment vs targeted treatment.

The whole body approach to healing is designed to respect the interconnectedness of your body as an intricate system, instead of a series of individual parts. By providing red and near-infrared light to every angle of the body, you not only treat specific areas that may be injured or strained, but also the other areas that are indirectly affected as well.  Because it promotes large scale muscle and tissue recovery in short session times, this is the go-to treatment for athletes or highly active people who are looking for ways to maximize recovery, lessen pain and increase their effort, energy and overall performance.

What is Red Light Therapy?

RLT is a type of photobiomodulation (PBM), which uses red and near infrared light to modify and improve cellular processes, and in so doing, promote tissue health and healing. The main targets for RLT are the mitochondria, which are the energy generating spark plugs found in every cell. Many chronic illnesses are associated with some element of mitochondrial dysfunction, therefore, RLT is a targeted and effective treatment.

Is Red Light Therapy safe?

RLT is safe. The treatment uses low-level lasers and LEDs that have no potentially harmful effects on the skin and clothing. The field if PBM has also been extensively researched for decades. With over 400 clinical trials conducted, 4,000+ lab studies performed and over 30 new research papers published each month on the safety and effectiveness of PBM.

Is it effective?

RLT is proven to be effective in the treatment of many sports injuries from runners’ knee to shin splints to lower back pain to tennis elbow. Basically, if it hurts, you can treat it with RLT.

Do note that the results may vary from person to person. Also, you can have RLT as a standalone treatment or you can incorporate it into a holistic treatment or wellness programme where a bespoke treatment programme is developed to optimize your fitness journey.
