What Should You Look For When Buying Luxury Fabrics?

by gbaf mag

Luxury fabrics are the fabric of choice in high end homes, because they give the interior a look and feel of royalty. There are two main fabric types available for most high end furnishings: genuine (Roman) silk and synthetic (synthetic) rayon. Both fabrics feel luxurious against the skin, but can have a dramatic effect on the price tag, especially designer silk. But which is the fabric that’s best?

The first factor to consider is the material. Pure silk is still the best value for money, but it’s also the most expensive. But if you’re shopping for designer furnishings or other items that are highly polished and well designed, then you will be looking for high-quality fabrics. Genuine silk and polyester are the two main alternatives when it comes to luxury fabrics, although they vary in price. Cotton and satin are also suitable options for high-end furnishings, but again they tend to be more expensive.

The synthetics are cheaper, but they are not as durable. Whilst silk and cotton fabrics are hard wearing, synthetic fibres wear down quickly, making them unsuitable for use in high traffic areas. Synthetic reasons are very hardwearing, but they don’t look so nice against a backdrop of cotton or silk. Satin is slightly better than cotton and synthetics, but also stains quite easily.

So the big question – which one is best? If you’re shopping for a high-end furniture piece, or something that has to be hand washed, then definitely go for the higher end fabrics. However, if you’re looking for something that can simply be thrown in the washing machine, then polyester or silk would be a good choice. Cotton and satin fabrics are suitable for use if you want to keep the look of luxury, but you won’t get nearly as much use out of them as you will with these two. If you have to hand wash your fabrics, though, you can always opt for a ‘disposable’ washer.

Cashmere is considered by most to be one of the highest quality fabrics in the world, and is highly prized amongst fashion designers for its beautiful soft look. Cashmere is very high-end because of its lustre and softness and comes in two different types. There are pure cashmere, which are 100% pure, and mixed with other natural fibers such as bamboo, jute, or silk, and there is Merino cashmere, which is actually wool. Pure cashmere is light and silky, whilst mixed varieties are more durable than pure cashmere.

A lot of people prefer natural fabrics, such as silk and cotton. These fabrics are very good for high-end clothing items, as they are softer and don’t wrinkle as easily. However, many of these fabrics cannot be used if you have to wash them regularly, as they lose their shape and colour. If you must use these types of clothes, you should try to wash them only once a week or less, as they tend to lose their shape. Instead of buying all that you need each season, it’s best to just stock up on some of the more seasonal, good quality clothing items, and change your clothing when the season changes.

Luxury fabrics like silk and cashmere wool are both good for high-end clothing items. Silk is considered to be the most luxurious fabric available, and it is also extremely soft and smooth to touch. Cashmere wool is considered to be more durable than silk, and it also has a natural shine and colours. However, while silk and cashmere are both good for everyday use, there is one major difference between the two: silk is considered to be the highest quality, but it is also the most expensive, as it is rare and hard to find.

When it comes down to it, there really is no reason to buy anything other than pure, high-quality, soft and smooth fabrics. Pure wool is best for everyday use and is also very soft and luxurious to touch. Cashmere wool, on the other hand, is best for high-end clothing that needs to be made into a certain shape. But if you want something cheaper and more unique, then it’s best to look for artificial fibers. Artificial fibers are usually made out of polyester, nylon and rayon, and they will last long, will feel nice and smooth to touch, but they won’t be as soft as pure wool.
