Tampa, Florida – Wednesday 9 November 2022: INVERSA Leather announced today a stunning and practical laptop sleeve, produced in partnership with slow fashion DTC brand, OLEADA, is now on sale online.
The laptop sleeve, which adds to the Captain Sleeve range, is made from INVERSA Leather’s Invasive TM Lionfish leather and OLEADA’s vegan leather produced from upcycled discarded plastic bottles collected from the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
A double win for the Ocean and fashion.
INVERSA’s mission to remove invasive species to re-define leather and revive nature is backed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – as well as supported by the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) which is a unique NGO that brings together governments, the public and private finance sectors, civil society and local communities.
By removing this certified destructive invasive lionfish from the Atlantic, and making it into beautiful and practical leather, INVERSA Leather is allowing nature to flourish once more.
As a result of human error in the late 1980s, a handful of lionfish slipped undetected into Atlantic waters off the coast of Florida. Fast forward 37 years and the invasive lionfish has completely taken over the Atlantic Ocean from Boston to Brazil to Barcelona. Everywhere they appear, they destroy coral reefs and oceanic food chains.
By removing these invasive predators, we are enabling the precious coral reef ecosystems to rehabilitate. Each invasive Lionfish can consume up to 70,000 native reef fish in its lifetime. So each fish we remove can protect up to 70,000 native reef fish. This allows the reefs to rebuild from the destruction caused.
In addition to INVERSA’s invasive lionfish leather OLEADA make the sleeves with premium vegan leather produced from upcycled discarded plastic bottles that have ended up in the sea. Each sleeve is made from 34 upcycled plastic bottles – removed from the ocean. The new laptop sleeve, lined with ultra-soft microfiber, protects against water, stains, and it is scratch resistant. Larger in size, they fit a 15-inch laptop, while still offering sophistication for the working day. The Mystic Black colourway is also unisex.
