What is Biohacking?

Biohacking is the exercise of making small, incremental changes in your lifestyle to make  long term improvements in your health and wellbeing. It is the crossroads of technology,  wellness and science.

Biohacking is not a process that is limited to one sphere of your biology. It involves  improving all of the different aspects of your physical and mental health. By developing  interconnections between your body and mind, you can become the lasting best version of  yourself.

Biohacking is, according to the father of the Biohacking movement, Dave Asprey “a crazy sounding name for something not crazy at all – the desire to be the absolute best version  of ourselves. The main thing that separates the biohacker from the rest of the self improvement world is a systems-thinking approach to our own biology” .He continues “If  we want better outputs – to have more energy and focus, to have a better memory, to  perform optimally in business and athletics – then let’s tweak the things we put into our  body and mind to stack the deck in our favour”.

Tony Robbins has publicly talked about the effect of biohacking using Cryotherapy and  Red Light Therapy to boost his recovery period across all areas of his body – circulation,  skin, muscles etc.

What treatments aid in Biohacking?

London Cryo offers a multitude of treatments that aid in biohacking.

London Cryo has treatments that work internally and externally, allowing you to biohack  your way to longer lasting and better health. 2 main treatments that will allow you to  biohack are Cryotherapy and infrared sauna.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is a treatment that resets your body and its systems into greater productivity.  Cryotherapy causes the reduction of tissue temperature and core body temperature. This  causes a shock to the body and in turn activates the nervous system through rising

norepinephrine levels, increasing blood pressure and increasing heart rate, leaving your  skin glowing and plump. The process of exposing the body to cold shock (2-3 times a  week is recommended for full benefits) can help your body function better in the long run.  Riding you of systemic inflammation, improving your mood, energy and sleep patterns.

Regular Cryotherapy allows for biohacking our body through:

Brown Adipose Tissue – this is the fat within out body that generates heat and works to  burn calories. It’s the good fat within our body that has a high mitochondrial content. The  process of Cryotherapy allows for the body to transform white fat tissue into brown adipose  tissue, increasing mitochondrial content, the fat we need in our body to promote a healthy  metabolism.

Norepinephrine – this is a natural chemical within our bodies and is released into our blood  stream during the process of cryotherapy due to the fight and flight mode the body puts  itself within when we enter extreme temperatures for a short time. Norepinephrine works to  improve our focus, mood, relieve pain and works as an anti-inflammatory.

Inflammation – The process of cryotherapy works to reduce inflammation within the body  through eliminating the initial cause of cell injury, clearing out dead cells and tissue  damage caused by original injury. Cryotherapy further initiates tissue repair and reduces  inflammatory cytokines within the body.

Immune Function – the short bouts of extreme cold associated with Cryotherapy increases  the function of the immune system through providing an increase in lymphocytes, cytotoxic  T lymphocytes and natural killer T cells, all of which are involved in fighting off diseases,  infections and viruses.

Whilst you can have a full body cryotherapy session, London Cryo also offer cryotherapy  treatments that target specific areas.

The London Cryo Facial uses cool temperatures, which causes your blood vessels to  contract and your pores to tighten, once your skin returns to normal temperature the blood  vessels dilate quickly, this causes and increase in blood flow and oxygen to the face which

makes the face glowy and vibrant. Including Cryotherapy in your routine improves the  elasticity of the skin, and boosts collagen production resulting in a lasting overall fresher  appearance.

CryoSkin can also be used to remove cellular ageing or slow down the ageing process, the  20 minute treatment applies cold therapy causing local metabolism and micro-circulation to  improve the treated area. Again it boosts the production of collagen which eliminates  cellulite, tones the area, improves skin elasticity and reduces pore size. By increasing  nutritional supple to the cells, Cyro treatments have a skin tightening effect.

Infrared Sauna

While traditional saunas raise the air temperature inside, infrared saunas use infrared light  to heat the body directly meaning the waves penetrate into the body for a deep heating  action.

The infrared sauna helps biohacking by:

Keeping the heart healthy – a recent study found that for men the more sessions they have  per week the lower the risk of sudden cardiac death and coronary heart disease.

Detoxification – it helps detox the body of chemicals and heavy metals, this happens the  increase of sweat that is produced in the sauna.

Immune system boost – the rise in core temperature by 1-2 degrees increases the number  of white blood cells thereby stimulating the immune system. Both Finnish and German  studies have shown that regular sauna led to a 30% less chance of getting a cold or  influenza.

Skin Rejuvenation – The deep sweating helps cleanse the pores and can increase capillary  circulation which gives skin a plumper, younger appearance. When you sweat the  movement of fluid to the skin delivers more nutrient and mineral-rich fluids and also helps  to fill spaces around the cells, increasing firmness and reducing the appearance of  wrinkles. So by regularly flushing the skin like this you can increase skin health, tone and  colour and cleanse your pores.
