Luxury is now more accessible, particularly with the rising middle class, as the upper class shrinks and the working class increases. Global warming has also fueled the rise in the desire for luxury consumerism; through fashion, magazines, television and, of late, the Internet. Luxury items are now instantly available on the internet from price comparison sites to specialty shops. The availability and relatively inexpensive pricing of luxury items have made them a popular choice with consumers. Yet the word “luxury” remains a vague term, lacking specific and definitive qualities.
What is luxury to you? To most people, luxury means money, especially in today’s recession when the average income is stagnant or falling. So how do we define and explain luxury? There is no definitive definition of luxury. For many people, luxury is different, depending on how they see life and what they value in their lives. For others, luxury is an empty concept, a fancy word that signifies nothing more than the indulgence of the rich and powerful.
But in my opinion, there is one universal quality shared by all who would define and appreciate luxury: it means having control over your life. It means creating the experience that you want and forgetting all about the means of getting there. It means knowing that you have the means to do whatever you want, and that there are better things in life than pleasing others at their expense.
True luxury, according to a growing number of us who are discovering our inner desires, is having control over your life. Who does not want to have the power to say, “Yes, I want that?” And being able to create the experience of happiness and fulfillment in any area of your life is no doubt a thrill. I know some of you reading this article have always longed for the elusive, all-encompassing, ultimate “want.” That elusive, all-encompassing “want” comes, at times, just at the right time. When we least expect it.
You may have known what a luxury is to you, or maybe you are just beginning to learn what a luxury is to you. Most of us have a vague idea of what luxury is, but the reality is that there are many different types of luxury, and not all of them are expensive or desirable. Luxury can mean different things to different people. In general, however, luxury generally refers to a lifestyle that is out of reach for the majority of us. A lifestyle that consists mainly of things that are not necessary, luxury items that are usually very high cost, and high-end fashion items.
The top luxury brands provide us with a number of examples of lifestyles that are considered luxury. The lifestyles of Paris Hilton, Clark Kent, Donald Trump, and Paris Hilton are all examples of high-end lifestyles. These people live by the saying, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.” They have their own jet, live in the finest hotels, and drive around in sports cars. All these examples of luxury are considered luxury by these so-called elite.
However, for the rest of us, luxury is more about striving to live a luxurious life, one of the highest quality in every area. The most luxurious products that we buy go a long way towards making our lives more comfortable and help to make us feel good about ourselves. This, in turn, boosts our self-esteem. It also makes us feel better about our relationships and helps us to attract the things that we want in life. In essence, luxury is a combination of expensive goods, superior service, and superior social interactions – all of which combine to create the most enjoyable lifestyle.
Now that you understand what luxury is, and what it takes to truly feel like a wealthy person, you can take steps towards achieving it. First, if you want more from life, you need to think about how you spend your time, and where you want to take it. Next, once you have figured out where you want to take your life, try to figure out what separates those people who have what they want in life, and people who don’t. Finally, try to figure out how you can find things that you can give to people who have less than what you have in life. By taking the time to work on yourself and creating a true luxury lifestyle, you will find that you will get more from life and be happier and healthier in all areas.
