‘Easy entertaining for the eco-warrior’ with Rotpunkt

by wrich

Rotpunkt, award-winning carbon-neutral manufacturer of German kitchen furniture is hand-selected by high-quality bespoke kitchen designers, John Willox Kitchen Design, to create a dramatic black kitchen with independent bar that combines luxury design with the latest eco-credentials.

Joanna Dereniowska, Showroom Manager at John Willox Kitchen Design says, “This kitchen and bar concept was commissioned with the homeowners in mind. They love to entertain their family and friends, so we were excited to recommend the versatile modular furniture available by Rotpunkt, as a way to introduce a series of unique design elements and innovative kitchen solutions, which are sustainably produced and come in a range of styles, materials and finishes.  For instance, standard features like the range of integrated LED lighting in its furniture, which is compatible with today’s smart home systems, is a real bonus for our client and another reason why we were able to design without limits on this project.”

“In the past 12 months the ready-to-drink market has expanded massively and I think this is here to stay, especially as consumers are adapting to the ‘new normal’ and want to make ethical choices by choosing sustainable brands far more these days. The home bar has therefore become very popular, especially throughout the colder months when the garden is off limits. With this in mind, it is no surprise to see demand for fully-fitted bars complete with sinks and space for cooling and storing wine now entering the kitchen space” says Matt Phillips, Head of UK Operations at Rotpunkt.

The rich, industrial-style Zerox furniture by Rotpunkt was selected in two dark timber-effect finishes to create a subtle contrast between the kitchen in Sherwood Black and custom bar area in Sherwood Park.  Each laminate door commands a natural, raw tactility and provides the perfect balance against a generous lifestyle island unit featuring seating for up to six people, ample work surface space and an integrated wet zone complete with Quooker Flex boiling water tap in stainless steel.

Contemporary handleless doors and drawers ensure a seamless effect with extra-tall cabinets from Rotpunkt complementing the high ceilings and ensuring there is ample storage for all household essentials you want to keep out of sight. Clearly defined working areas were critical when space planning, which is why we created a designated breakfast station where smaller appliances like the coffee machine, toaster and food processor discreetly hide behind pocket doors until needed. On the opposite side of the room is a flush-mounted induction hob by AEG complete with Miro cooker hood and a trio of built-in AEG ovens and a compact handleless push-to-open wine cooler. Polished 50mm Silestone surfaces in Classic Calacatta complete this hardworking, high contrast kitchen scheme and lead perfectly in to the bar area.

This saloon-style home bar designed with tall, integrated wine coolers by Dunavox, makes way for a dark brown wood-effect foundation in Zerox Sherwood Park by Rotpunkt. The choice of furniture and finish helps create a cosy, more intimate feel in the space when compared to the strong black kitchen and naturally colour-tones with the wood flooring and dark grey painted walls. Handleless units are illuminated with integrated smart-home-ready LED Detroit and Manila lighting strips, which complement the subtle spotlights and enhance light levels when mixing drinks.

The glass storage cabinets provide ample storage for glassware and punch bowls and are designed with a unique mesh-style glass finish on the doors to continue the industrial vibe and well-considered mix of materials throughout. Above the 50mm thick made-to-measure Dekton worktop in Domoos, sits a practical Wall Panel System by Roptpunkt, which is in the same finish as the cabinet and provides a dedicated space to house the homeowners prized and most favoured spirits and liqueurs.

Matt adds, “I think this project shows that it is definitely possible to live the good life while being kind to the planet and reducing carbon levels. Our woodgrain effect furniture replicates the look and feel of beautiful timber so not only can you save our trees abut also give a new kitchen an already established, organic feel in your home. Design freedom and flexibility is a hallmark of the Rotpunkt experience and we are always impressed by the creativity shown by Joanna and the team at John Willox Kitchen Design.”
