Original Defender modification expert opens boutique home in Kensington
Twisted Automotive is expanding and has opened its first showroom in London as the business celebrates its 21st birthday.
The property at Radley Mews, Kensington, includes a commissioning space where clients can work with the Twisted team to create their own, fully bespoke vehicle.
The launch was celebrated with a sunrise convoy through the capital. Among the models joining the cavalcade were two V8 110 Twisted Defender and a distinctive Twisted Bahama Gold 90 soft top. Vehicles can be viewed by appointment only.
Exclusive Land Rover Defender modification specialist Twisted Automotive celebrates the launch of its first London showroom with a sunrise convoy through the city.
Doors to the studio at Radley Mews opened on Monday (July 5) and visitors are welcome to view select vehicles from the iconic range of re-engineered Twisted Defender by appointment
Twisted Automotive offers just a handful of vehicles for sale every year to a global customer base. Each is rebuilt to exacting standards to make each Defender the best it can be in terms of performance, comfort and design.
Clients can experience vehicles from the highly engineered Twisted Defined collection that fully showcases Twisted’s expertise – or work with the London team to commission a fully bespoke vehicle made to their personal specification, including an EV model. Prices range from £75,000 to £350,000 + VAT.
The 1,200 sq ft Radley Mews showroom is easy to locate, just a stone’s throw from Kensington High Street. The address may already be familiar to classic car fans, having previously housed well-established collectable car expert Graham Hunt, which recently relocated to Battersea.
Twisted founder Charles Fawcett said expanding into the capital had been a long-held ambition: “We are delighted to be bringing the best Defender ever created to London – it is a momentous turning point for our brand.
“The city is a ‘twisted’ place – our vehicles are created in Yorkshire but our customers are all over the world, travelling frequently through London. Having a base here means we are now in easy reach, for them and for our existing London-based customers; a discerning bunch who know that a Twisted is actually the perfect city car, with great visibility and enhanced design features. You can even order a fully electric version.
“And if you do want to escape to the countryside, you have some formidable performance and classic styling at your fingertips. It’s a classic vehicle with a modern twist that will simply never date.
“The new space will give people the chance to either purchase one of our exclusive Defined range or to be guided through the commissioning process to create a vehicle that is completely bespoke – so the best, made better, made yours.”
The company celebrates 21 years in business in 2021. The Twisted Group employs 70 people and has a turnover of £12m, with further growth planned with the launch later this year of Twisted Marine from a base in Salcombe, Devon.
In January, the business opened a new headquarters in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. The Old Cinema is home to around 25 vehicles, along with curios such as brand ambassador Jasmine Harrison’s boat Argo, in which she single-handedly crossed the Atlantic.
Last month, Twisted Performance Silverstone opened as the UK’s only retail outlet selling official Twisted brand parts and accessories such as wheels, steering wheels and other merchandise.
